Harry Potter vs. Twilight.

I don’t understand the big obsession with Twilight. Summer of 2008 I read the first Twilight book and it pains me to say it but I actually enjoyed it. So I read the whole series. It got me hooked like. Then I went to the midnight release of the last book, Breaking Dawn.

So why now do I suddenly hate it? Well the whole thing started with the first movie. It was very poorly produced. I did not like it at all. In my opinion it ruined the books. Most of the time the books are better then the movie but this movie just ruined it all.

Now all everyone thinks about is Twilight. It’s in all of the magazines and on all of the entertainment shows. I’m getting sick of it. It’s not even that everyone likes it now it’s that it’s annoying. It’s all everyone talks about. The actors were chosen very poorly. Kristen Stewart, who plays Bella, has no emotion at all when she talks. The actor who plays Edward Cullen is a trader. He was originally a wizard in Harry Potter and then turned into a vampire. He was so much better as a wizard.

Harry Potter is an amazing series. It teaches a good message to everyone who reads it and watches it (which is all age groups). It sends the message of love and friendship. What does Twilight teach? To have sex when your 18 with a vampire and get pregnant and have a family by age 19? I don’t think that’s a very good message to teach teenagers watching the movie and reading the books.

Twilight has rushed every movie they have made. The new one is coming out November 20, 2009 and the next release date is July 2010. This shows they have rushed the movies. You can’t just make a movie in less then a year and send then out that quickly. The only reason they are making them this quickly is so they don’t the attention of their fans. They have to get them out before everyone loses interest. Meanwhile Harry Potter fans will stay on as long as the series is going and even after the series. Harry Potter fans are true and loyal fans.

Harry Potter had made a difference in so many peoples lives. It has changed my life for the better. Harry Potter even has a genre of music dedicated to it. It’s called Wizard Rock. It is the most amazing music. A few weeks ago I even went to a HUGE Wizard Rock concert in Potosi, Missouri. It was a four day event where bands just sang their music about Harry Potter. Everyone in this community is just so nice and friendly. This is what Harry Potter has gave to the world. This amazing story and now everyone can get together at different Harry Potter cons and talk about the books and make amazing friends.

Harry Potter is just so much better then Twilight.

  1. Maddy, I feel almost exactly the same way. I don't really hate Twilight, I'm just rather ambivalent about the whole thing. Plus, there are just SO MANY OTHER things people could be reading that are so much better! I read the first three in about three days in the summer of 2008, then was excited for Breaking Dawn, then sat back and went, "Huh. Yeah, that was nice. Moving on!"

During her Harry, a History talk at LeakCon Melissa mentioned that Twilight, essentially, is about being in love with Edward Cullen. She's right; it's like a glorified Mary Sue fanfic piece. Not that there's anything wrong with that, really (I won't rant about the horrible messages for women in New Moon....) but Twilight's not even CLOSE to the level of awesome contained in HP.

Or, as John Green would say:
" *shows clip of wrock* Dear Twilight Fandom: Call me when you can rock like that"

Also, you and Jake are fabulous, btw.
